Expertise · Fractional Marketing
If you have a marketing problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them… maybe you can hire The A-Team. Senior marketing leadership, embedded in your business, without the full-time price tag. (Van and explosions not included.)
Fractional Marketing 101
Simple version: fractional marketing is senior marketing leadership you get part of the time, for part of the cost. Instead of hiring a full-time CMO or VP of Marketing, you bring in an experienced leader for a set number of hours or days each month. They plug into your team, build the strategy, guide the people, and help execute, just like a full-time exec would… only on a schedule that fits your stage and your budget.
It’s easy to confuse fractional with freelancers or agencies. They all have their place (seriously, some of my favorite people are agency folks), but they solve different problems.
Great for a specific task: a website refresh, a batch of blog posts, an ad campaign. You bring the plan; they execute a piece of it.
Owns: the task
An outside team with lots of specialists and a retainer to match. Strong at execution, but they work for you, not with you, and strategy often stops at the contract scope.
Owns: the deliverables
A seasoned marketing executive who joins your team part-time, sets the strategy, leads the people, and owns the results alongside you.
Owns: the outcome
Freelancers do tasks. Agencies deliver projects. A fractional leader owns the outcome with you.
Fractional vs. Full-Time
Look, I’d love to tell you fractional is the right answer for everyone. It isn’t. Full-time teams are fantastic, and plenty of companies absolutely need one. Here’s the straight comparison, so you can decide what fits your business right now.
| Fractional | Full-Time Team | |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | A fraction of an executive salary, with no benefits or equity package | Full salary, benefits, bonus, equity, and recruiting fees |
| Speed to start | Weeks | Often months to recruit, hire, and onboard |
| Experience level | Senior, multi-company, multi-stage | Depends on who you can attract and afford |
| Availability | Scheduled hours; not in every meeting | All day, every day |
| Company knowledge | Ramps quickly, but starts as an outsider | Deep and built over time |
| Flexibility | Scale up, scale down, or wrap up as needs change | Harder to change once the team is built |
| Hands-on execution | Varies by engagement; often relies on your team | Dedicated capacity to do the work |
The Upside
The Trade-Offs
Setting Realistic Expectations
Remember The Karate Kid? Daniel spends days waxing cars and painting fences, totally convinced Mr. Miyagi is scamming him for free labor. Then, in one scene, it all clicks… every “chore” was building the foundation that wins the tournament. [Cue the crane kick.]
Marketing works the same way, and that includes fractional marketing. One-off projects are rarely instant wins. A new website, a positioning refresh, or a single campaign is a deposit, not a jackpot. Brand, content, SEO, and pipeline all compound over time, and the real returns show up when you keep investing. Every business is different, but a realistic arc usually looks something like this:
Months 1–3
Audit what exists, build the strategy, fix the tracking, and knock out a few quick wins. Early signal, not the full payoff.
Months 3–6
Programs go live: messaging, content, campaigns, and enablement. Leading indicators move first: traffic, engagement, and lead quality.
Months 6–12
Pipeline and revenue impact become measurable. Double down on what works, cut what doesn’t, and let it compound.
Friendly Warning
Quick wins are real, and we’ll chase them. But a fractional engagement should be judged like any smart investment: over a sensible time horizon, against goals everyone agreed on up front. Give it the runway to prove itself, and measure it honestly along the way.
Why Go Fractional?
Every company that calls in a fractional leader has its own reason, but most of them fall into a few familiar storylines.
You need senior strategy now, but a full-time executive isn’t in the budget (or the org chart) yet.
Your marketing leader left, and the search will take months. Keep the engine running in the meantime.
You’ve got talented doers who need a seasoned leader to set direction and coach them up.
A launch, a rebrand, a new market, or a post-acquisition integration needs experienced hands for a defined stretch.
You want executive-level thinking without executive-level overhead, so more budget goes into the work itself.
Not sure what your full-time marketing leader should look like? A fractional leader can build the foundation and help you hire the right person.

Expectations First
Hannibal’s famous line only works because the whole team knows the plan before the action starts. Fractional marketing is no different. To make sure you get the value you expect, we clearly define expectations up front, in writing, before the work begins. Here’s what we’ll nail down together:
What does “winning” look like, and how will we measure it? Pipeline, leads, launches, brand metrics?
What’s in, what’s out, and what happens when priorities shift (because they will).
Hours or days per month, meeting rhythm, and when I’m reachable.
Who owns execution, who approves what, and who I’ll be working with day to day.
The data, tools, budget, and people needed to actually do the job.
A 30-60-90 day plan plus regular reviews to confirm we’re on track, or adjust if we’re not.
Clear expectations up front are the difference between “worth every penny” and “so…what did they do again?”

How We Can Help
A seasoned marketing leader in the seat a few days a month, owning strategy, team, budget, and reporting…without the full-time price tag.
Assemble the Team
